In Memory of Mary Jane Davis
July 13, 1921 - Jananuary 11, 2007
Mary Jane Davis was born in Iowa, graduated college and received a Fellowshipto Evanston University. She moved to Palm Beach County in 1923, became Radio WJNO Station Manager and married Charles Davis, the Station’s competitor.
Together, in 1940, after owning two Dachshunds, they started the Perro Largo Kennel and had the top winning Wirehaired Dachshund in the country.
In 1945, Mary Jane and her husband co-founded the Palm Beach County Dog FanciersAssociation. For thirty years she was Assistant Show Chair to Charles and after his death became Show Chairman and held this position until the early 90’s.
Because her mission was not only to promote the sport of purebred dogs, but the rescue, care and healing of animals less fortunate, the net proceeds of the dog shows were donated to the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League. She was a volunteerat the League for over fifty-five years and during this time she was Chairman of the Board and in 2005 became Chairman Emeritus.
Mary Jane was the heart and soul of our Club. She enriched our lives and left us with wonderful memories and a legacy that will stand the test of time. She always had time for others, as a listener and a helper. She was a great lady and is missed dearly.
